WoW Fishing

Fishing is a World of Warcraft secondary skill that allows players to train fishing, equip a fishing pole, and head to the nearest body of water to catch fish. Since fishing is a secondary skill (not to be confused with a profession) anyone and everyone can train it regardless of the professions they have trained. Not only is fishing is a neat skill to have, the items caught while fishing are useful to players.

If you decide to train fishing then it is highly suggested that you also train cooking. Fishing and cooking are well matched to one another, most of the components caught while fishing can be cooked into dishes. You can even catch fish, build a fire right where you are fishing, and cook the fish (assuming you have the right spices). While cooking does not help to level your fishing, fishing can assist in leveling your cooking because of all the cooking supplies you will receive.

Besides using fish for cooking, fish can also be caught to be used for food for hunter pets. And besides catching fish, there are other items of notice that can be caught such as a few alchemy supplies and motes and essences of water.

Fishing is different from the majority of profession type skills because it doesn't require you to find or train lots of recipes. With fishing, you need only train your skill levels and in this manner it makes for a very inexpensive skill to have. 

The only downside to fishing is that it takes some time to get your skill up. You have to be actively involved with each cast, waiting for a fish to bite, so unlike other skills in which you can elect to make 100 of an item and leave your computer, with fishing you must sit and wait. Fishing is great to have when you have any sort of down time near water, all you have to do is equip your pole and cast and you are busy once again.

Fishing is definitely a fun skill to have, it gives World of Warcraft just another fun boost and adds to the lore of the game. Some players actively follow fishing lore, such as that of Nat Pagle, while others participate in the fishing contest in Booty Bay. Whatever reason players have for fishing most agree that fishing takes a little time and patience to level but is worth it in the end.
